Firstly the leaders would like to apologise for being naughty and breaking the 10pm noise curfew last night. Just proves the point that leaders are just big kids as well!
So today we started the real fun and it was the first full day of activities, the group splitting into two to take part in sledging and cross country skiing. The early night last night (for the Explorers & Network) did pay off as both the groups were all set and ready to go on time, unheard of for Explorer Scouts!
Group 1 (Yellow group)
Today we went sledging on top of a mountain. Whilst it was cold, tiring and exhausting, the thrill of hardcore sledging kept us buzzing with joy, excitement and adventure. We weren't professionals, when it came to sledging and keeping on the slopes, but the fact that no one got seriously injured reassures parents worries that all is well. We've had a fun filled first day on the slopes and hope for more fun tomorrow! (Will Gould)
Group 2 (Green Group)
Cross country skiing for us.... this was a new experience for everyone in the group. We started out with one ski to get used to clipping in and sliding, after mastering the basics off we went around the 2km route. There were a number of mishaps and two broken poles, but no more injuries than a few bruises and dented prides!
We came back to the chalet and using plastic boxes, made snow bricks and built igloos - one for a fairy (it was very small), one with branches as scaffolding and one, free standing, fully capped version - apparently the first for this year at Our Chalet! (Amanda Stanley, aged 37.5!! We couldn't find an awake volunteer....)
Evening events consisted of a Swiss Evening with a riotous and loud Swiss Quiz, a touch of Alphorn playing and rounded off with a very messy chocolate fondue.
Finally, The Richard Scout Award...This award is presented daily and unfortunately went to one of the leaders on the first day of activities for outstanding efforts and winter sport skills... https://vimeo.com/155435194
P.S. we broke the 10pm curfew to post this!!!
Looks like you are having an amazing time. Thanks for the posts!
